Coleraine councillor says City of Derry Airport should close


A Coleraine based councillor is calling for the closure of City of Derry Airport, saying the money spent on keeping the airport open should instead be invested in road and rail improvements between the North West and Belfast International Airport.
David Harding, a Conservative member of the Causeway Coast and Glens Council, says there isn’t an economic reason to keep City of Derry Airport open.Responding, Derry City and Strabane Councillor Eric Mc Ginley said the airport serves a communuity development function that goes beyond economic imperatives.
He says Cllr Harding’s analysis is typical of the conservative economic policy which has brought the region to where it is.
