Donegal woman ten times over limit cuts telegraph pole in two


A Donegal woman who crashed her car into a telegraph pole, breaking it in half, while ten times over the legal alcohol limit and asleep at the wheel, has been fined €200 and banned from driving for three years.
38 year old Jennifer Vial with an address at Loughfad, Portnoo appeared at Glenties District Court pleaded guilty to a charge of drink driving at Sandfield, Ardara on July 18th 2017.
Glenties District Court was told that the 38-year-old had her six month old baby and 9 year old cousin in the vehicle at the time of the collision while ten times over the legal limit.
Inspector Denis Joyce told the court that the defendant had a previous conviction for drink driving.
Defence solicitor Cormac Hartnett said his client had been at a picnic, sharing in a family bottle of wine and had consumed more alcohol after going to the family home.
The court heard the defendant had gone to counselling, addiction counselling and completed 30 days in an addiction and rehibilitaion centre and was now in an after care programme.
Judge Paul Kelly said it was a very sad situation that could have been so much worse and fined the defendant €200 banning her from driving for three years.
