Blaney and Gormley play for Ireland in Centenary Shield

Finn Harps player Shane Blaney, a student at St. Eunan’s College, got a second international win under his belt as the Republic of Ireland Schoolboys came from behind to defeat their Northern Ireland counterparts 2-1 on Thursday in the international Centenary Shield competition in Bangor.
Blaney’s side were 1-0 down at the break after Daniel Reynolds had given the hosts the lead but the visitors came back with an equaliser in the 80th minute from Alex Byrne. And then with just four minutes of normal time remaining Neil Farrugia grabbed the winner.
Loreto Convent Milford student Conor Gormley came on as a late sub for the three minutes of injury time. Another Finn Harps player Jamie Bell was the sub keeper. It’s means maximum points for the Republic of Ireland after two games having defeated Wales in Dublin a fortnight ago in the opening match of the international competition. The next game for the Irish is away to Scotland at the Stirling Albion grounds on April 6th.
