Broadcasting of ‘Atlantic’ documentary prompts further calls for Government intervention

The airing of the documentary ‘Atlantic’ on RTE1 last night has prompted further calls on the Government to address legislation that allows super trawlers to fish off the Irish coast.
The production centres around three fishing communities – one being Arranmore Island – and the daily constraints they face.
There has been on-going concern over the super trawler Margiris fishing off the coast of Ireland with its capacity to catch over 9-thousand tonnes of fish while local fishermen are prohibited from fishing in the same water.
Chair of Irish Islands Marine Resource Organistion and Arranmore native Jerry Early featured in the production and is hopeful it has further highlighted their campaign:
