Mc Hugh says the local community must be involved in determining future of nursing units

Junior Minister Joe McHugh told a public meeting in Ramelton last night that he has received assurances from Health Minister Leo Varadkar that the local Community Nursing Unit and similar facilities in Lifford and Stranorlar will not close. He’s pledged to work with the local community to ease the fear that exists.
Minister Mc Hugh told the meeting that a comprehensive plan must be drafted through community engagement for these centres to ensure they remain open in the long term, and he has written to the Minister requesting this.
However, in a statement issued after the meeting, he makes no mention of the HSE letter suggesting that long stay beds will be removed from the community facilities and centralised at a new unit in Letterkenny
