The Government has been criticised for a delay in ratifying the CRPD, the UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities.
The convention gives a committment that people with disabilities can enjoy their rights on an equal basis with all other citizens.
Ireland signed the CRPD 8 years ago but has yet to ratify it despite over 150 other countries having done so.
The issue has been raised in the Dail by Sinn Fein Justice Spokesperson, Donegal Deputy Padraig MacLochlainn – he has questioned why the Government is dragging its feet on the issue……..

Responding, Minister Aodhan O’Riordain said the government will ratify the CRPD once Ireland is in compliance with it through new legislation………
