The Labour party says its members should be proud to have Mairia Cahill amongst their ranks.
Ms Cahill’s been nominated to contest the Seanad by-election for the seat vacated by Jimmy Harte – who has suffered serious health issues since falling in Dublin in 2013.
In a letter to parliamentary party members leader Joan Burton says Mairia’s bravery in speaking out about sexual abuse and her background in youth employment and community enterprise make her an ideal candidate for the Oireachtas’ upper house.
