Action needed to improve farm incomes – Harkin

Marian Harkin
A North West MEP says politicians who have consistently tended to exaggerate the prospects for Irish agriculture have a major responsibility to the country’s farmers to being in measures to improve farm incomes.
Speaking ahead of a farmers’ protest in Brussels next week, Independent MEP Marian Harkin says there is an onus on politicians both at EU and National level to bring forward the emergency measures necessary to stabilise the current situation.
She says it’s not enough to blame world prices and oversupply in the market, particularly when many problems are being caused by public policy.
Ms Harkin says stabilisation measures have been introduced in France and Belgium, and that should also happen here………..
