Unionist Cllr voices objection to Easter Rising memorial plans in Strabane

1916A Unionist councillor in Strabane has said he will be objecting to plans for a republican memorial in the town centre to mark the 1916 Easter Rising.
A new steering group made up of republican ex-prisoners announced last week that it would be calling for a permanent memorial in line with next year’s 100th anniversary of the Rising.
The idea is part of a wider programme of commemorative events. Other proposals include a parade and pageant as well as various cultural discussions and debates.
UUP Cllr Derek Hussey says he would be very much against a republican memorial in Strabane town centre:
