Moya Doherty named Donegal Person of the Year

moyaMoya Doherty has been named as the Donegal Person of the Year.

The co-founder of ‘Riverdance’ will be presented with the coveted award in Dublin on March 7.

Ms Doherty, is a native of Pettigo but grew up in Dungloe.

She succeeds Liam Ó Cuinneagáin from Glencolmcille. She follows in the footsteps of people such as actor Sean McGinley, Packie Bonner, Daniel O’Donnell, Jim McGuinness and Brian McEniff who have won the award.

Members of the Donegal Association in Dublin who organise the event made the announcement at the Mansion House.

Ms Doherty, was recently appointed as the Chairperson of the new RTE Board.

As well as her achievements with Riverdance, Ms Doherty was a founding member of radio station Today FM.

She is married to fellow Riverdance entrepreneur John McColgan.
