Appeal lodged against Council’s planning refusal for Lough Eske windfarm

windfarmAn appeal has been lodged to allow a windfarm proposed for one of the most scenic parts of County Donegal go ahead.
React Energy was refused permission by Donegal County Council for the construction of a number of turbines at Altilow, close to Lough Eske – that decision has now been appealed by the company to An Bord Pleanala.
Under the plans, React Energy wants to construct a six turbine windfarm. Each turbine would have a blade to tip height of 100 meters.
The plans, which are accompanied by an Environmental Impact Statement would also see the construction of an electrical compound and two new site entrances.
The windturbines would be located on the Blue Stack Mountain Range overlooking Lough Eske.
Among those to object was the Lough Eske Community Development Association. It argued that the development would damage the landscape forever and destroy the natural beauty of the area.
There is also concern as to the impact the development would have on the local water supply and the value of property and businesses in the area.
The association, which submitted a petition signed by dozens of locals also expresses concern that the development could create the danger of landslides.
An Bord Pleanala says it will make a decision on if the project can go ahead by September.
