Mc Conalogue clashes with Burton over Farm Assist changes

Donegal North East Deputy Charlie McConalogue has hit out at the Social Protection Minister Joan Burton, accusing her of reneging on a promise not to reduce basic social welfare payments.
Calling in the Dail for a full review and analysis of the Farm Assist Scheme, he Fianna Fail deputy said in successive budgets, the government has reduced the amount of income that can be disregarded when farm families are being assessed for Farm Assist, to the point where all income is now taken into account.
This, he says, has seen the amount of money being paid out significantly reduced, and means the payment is now little more than a form of dole, which he believes to be unfair………..
