Derry woman sentanced to six years in prison for stabbing

A Derry woman has been jailed for six years for stabbing another woman in the city in December 2011.
22-year-old Donna McKeefrey of 9, Barnewell Place in the city appeared at the local Crown Court yesterday.
The court was told that on December 10 last the injured party called at a house where McKeefrey was.
Both parties were known to each other and after a short time a fight broke out between McKeefrey and the other woman.
They were separated but then the injured party saw McKeefrey had a knife and a further row started in which the other woman was stabbed numerous times.
The court heard that the injured party had multiple wounds to her arms, legs, abdomen, head and neck.
When interviewed McKeefrey said she had grabbed the knife to stop the other woman from getting it.
Judge Piers Grant said that drugs and alcohol misuse had played a part in McKeefrey’s offending but he added it was up to her to address these issues.
He sentenced McKeefrey to 6 years in prison and extended her licence period by two years.
