PSNI issue warning about bogus banknotes being used in Northwest

The PSNI has issued a warning about bogus banknotes after several reports of counterfeit ten and twenty pound notes being used in Derry, Limavady, Strabane and Castlederg over the last few weeks.

Three people were arrested and released this week as part of an ongoing investigation.

On Monday of this week, police received a report of counterfeit notes being passed in a bar on the Strand Road, Derry. A substantial quantity of counterfeit notes was seized during a follow-up search of a vehicle.

Three men were arrested, they have since been released on bail pending further police enquiries.

Yesterday, police say a few hundred pounds worth of counterfeit notes were passed in a shop in Derry City Centre.

Police in the city are urging local business people, staff and members of the public to be vigilant and take a few minutes to check notes carefully before accepting them, and to always report any suspicious incidents.
