Donegal chef lucky to escape prison for selling drugs

A Donegal chef was told by a judge that he was very lucky he was not going to jail for selling drugs to pay off a fine.
Eugene Gallagher, who is 24 and of Ernedale Heights, Ballyshannon admitted possession of €3,986 worth of cannabis for sale when he appeared in court.
Ballyshannon District Court heard that Gallagher was only 16 when his father died and he started smoking cannabis. He had previous convictions for criminal damage and drugs possession.
Defence solicitor Florence Hutchinson said Gallagher, , had received a wake up call. She said he was selling the drugs to pay off a previous €1,000 fine.
Judge Kevin Kilrane said: “He intended to sell them for profit. He is very lucky he is not going to prison.”
Gallagher was given a six months suspended jail sentence for having drugs for sale at Saimer Drive, Ballyshannon, last November 19.
