The Taoiseach’s mother has passed away at the age of 93.

Donegal native Eithne Kenny, nee Mc Ginley,  died this morning in Co. Mayo,  surrounded by her family.

Originally from Glencolmcille, Eithne married the late deputy Henry Kenny and had four children.

Speaking just months before her death, Eithne said she was so proud to live to see her son Enda become Taoiseach.

Her funeral arrangements will be announced later.
